CBS Radio has unveiled “The Guest List,” a new program presented by MasterCard’s “Priceless Cities” campaign. Featuring interviews with top celebrities and profiles of local hotspots in cities around the country, the Guest List is chock full of insider tips and recommendations.
For many consumers today, experiences have more value than objects. Physical goods have a way of fading from memory while experiences linger. With that in mind, CBS Radio is telling stories of incredible, one-of-a-kind experiences that money can’t buy.
In the first episode, viewers are brought to Miami’s oldest bar, shown a VIP experience at the B96 Summer Bash and treated to an interview with Tyrese Gibson about his latest album.
While many incentive programs emphasize free or discounted goods, The Guest List showcases something that is, for lack of a better word, priceless. Experiences, research finds, stay with us for life. Material items usually don’t.
As Harvard Professor Michael Norton notes:
When we ask people to list all of their expenses in a given month, and then categorize them, it is always striking how much of their budget goes toward buying what we call—using the scientific term—stuff. Gadgets, music, books, lattes, and so on. As it turns out, buying stuff is not bad for our happiness—buying coffees and cars and even houses don’t make us unhappy—but stuff also doesn’t make us any happier. Buying experiences, in comparison, does seem to create more happiness for every dollar spent.
That’s what’s most effective about this initiative. There is no better way to stay in consumers’ minds than to provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And the “Guest List” is underpinned by a simple message: there are amazing real world experiences to be had in cities everywhere.
