Last week, CBS Radio announced that it will acquire NYC’s 101.9 FM from Merlin Media. The station flipped formats multiple times over the last few years – from smooth jazz to alternative rock to FM talk and back to rock just a couple months ago.

So what will become of the short-lived new rock station? CBS Radio is taking the first and most celebrated sports talk station in the nation – WFAN – to the FM airwaves.  Soon, America’s favorite AM sports-talk personalities, such as Mike Francesa, Boomer Esiason & Craig Carton, will broaden their reach on the FM dial while continuing to be broadcast on 660 AM, online and via Radio.com.

Dan Mason, President and CEO, CBS Radio says of the newly acquired station, “This is an extremely exciting opportunity to expand our radio presence in the nation’s largest market. Sports is a very popular format and a huge growth category for our business. As a result of this new asset, we look forward to The FAN building on its position as the leading sports radio franchise in the country.”

The Altitude Group shares Mr. Mason’s excitement about the new station. Welcome to the FM dial, WFAN!
